As the industry of pet grooming ages, we learn and adjust. It is not recommend to pluck ear hair or release a pet's anal glands. These services will not be preformed unless requested to do so.
Fleas, ticks, worms, other parasites and contagious issues are not a normal thing. It is recommended to treat at home, and wait until the mass of infestation has died before booking any services. Vacuum and clean any and all possible areas during treatment, and keep up on treatment for at least 6 months to a year. Ideally, you should have a treatment plan worked out with your vet. Services may be denied after third occurrence.
Services that include brushing are set up for 15 minutes of brushing. For the safety and well-being of the animal that should be the limit of brushing any time. Brushing should be done often at home. The groom is the exam, not the homework. We have availably for frequent brushing-only appointments if needed.
If SPS staff determines the best course of action is to shave, we will alert and wait 30 minutes. Either the groom will pause and may need to be rescheduled or we will start dropping down in lengths until able to cut through, depending on if there is a waive on file.
To be respectful of groomer's time and keep everyone on schedule, we ask clients to be on time for appointments and pick up within 30 minutes. Dropping off 15 minutes past the start of appointment and picking up after 45 minutes of completion may result in a late fee.
Payment is due at or before pick up. If payment is not received before 11:59 pm on the date of service, a fee will be included for next visit.
It is understandable that the grooming process can be unpleasant. Efforts are made to ensure a comfortable experience. Sometimes our fur-friends can be spicy. We will do what we can with the pet always as first priority. Services may not be able to be rendered.
Clients are expected to provide proof of rabies certificate prior to grooming appointment. Rabies is mandatory, but others would be nice to add as well.
We will avoid shaving a double/under-coated or short hair pet at all cost. For example, Huskies, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Australian Shepherds, Corgis, Pugs, Pomeranians who have never been shaved before, etc. The hair will not grow back the same. If it does, it may take many years.
Ideally you should be brushing weekly, depending on the coat. Your pet should not be receiving months worth of brushing in one session.
If you have fallen behind on brushing, prioritize the face and the tail. Everything else can be shaved.
Currently we accept cash, check, Zelle, and Venmo. We hope to add debit/credit cards soon.
No, this is a process that can take hours.
Do not let them get wet! Do not let them inside if possible.
The skunk's musk is an oily liquid discharged from their anal glands. Adding water will mix with the musk chemicals and intensify the smell.
1) Suit up in throw-away clothing and gloves.
2) Soak up as much of the oily liquid with disposable towels.
3) Apply dry baking powder and dust off or comb out.
4) Make a mixture of a cup of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 tsp of liquid detergent. Mix and apply directly to affected spots, avoiding eyes. Leave on for 20 minutes.
5) Bath with shampoo, repeat if necessary. Do not use conditioners!
6) Repeat mixture and bath step if necessary. Let pet air-dry outside.
